Fiber Optic Splicing and testing contractor
JIP Telecom Inc, is a leading telecommunications and technology provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Fiber Optic Splicing and testing Contractor from across Canada to join our outside plant (OSP) team, we are ideally looking for an independent highly skilled fiber optic splicer who understands Telus’s network infrastructure and is familiar with tier 2 testing, if you run your own splicing truck and have all required state of the art testing and splicing tools and equipment you are welcome to apply for this full-time job, Willingness to travel would be beneficial as travel options may arise for future projects (All travel and accommodations will be paid by JIP Telecom Inc)
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Splicing contractor is responsible for dressing, splicing and testing fiber optic cables in commercial and residential buildings.
Responsibilities
- Read technical diagrams and drawings
- Fusion Splicing of ribbon and single fibers
- Fiber testing using OTDR (Optical Time-domain Reflectometer) and Optical and Power Meter Test Sets
- Troubleshoot fiber cable abnormalities
- Perform aerial functions associated with FOSC (Fiber Optic Splice Closure) splicing
- Perform underground functions associated with installing and splicing FOSCs, including placing new cable/fiber through ducts
- Operate company vehicles in a safe and professional manner
- Work at customer premises and provide exceptional client service
- Travel outside the headquarter area, if required
- Retain and demonstrate a professional attitude at all times
- Help build and maintain positive relations within the team
- Protect organizations’ values by keeping information confidential
- Perform other administrative and miscellaneous duties as requested, directed or assigned

Qualifications
- 4(+) years of OSP (Outside Plant) and/or ISP (Inside Plant) fiber optic splicing experience
- Must have experience splicing fiber optic FOSCs and/or iFDH (inside Fiber Distribution Hubs), or WBM (Wall Mounted Building Terminal) lookup
- Must have knowledge of ISP construction methods and practices
- Ability to manage a physically demanding workload
- Ability to effectively handle both favorable and unfavorable customer interactions
- Fluent in English (reading, writing and conversational)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- A criminal background check is required

Electrical/Cabling Technician

JIP is currently looking for a minimum of five years experienced structured cable technician for small to large-scale construction projects. Mainly MxU fiber optic project, we are looking for a reliable person with an exceptional ability to fish cables through walls, good work ethic, and diverse knowledge and skills to work in the telecommunications and security industry. We offer permanent full-time employment primarily in the local area. This hourly paid position is compensated based on experience and certifications. To meet the needs of our business some evening and weekend work may be required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

DESIRED SKILLS:

- Experience on a scissor and boom lifts is an asset
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Essential duties and responsibilities may consist of but are not limited to:
- Installation, termination, and testing of cabling systems
- Build closets, mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fibre optic, and hardware
- Route cable through data centers, buildings, and inter-building
- Install cable supports, core holes, and create pathways. Installation of ladder tray, conduit, and raceway
- Fish walls, conduit, and workstations. Dress closets, cross-connect, and terminations
- Test, review, commission and troubleshoot installed systems
- Provide appropriate customer service when responding to a customer request or fulfilling project requirements
- Interpret and verify work orders, specifications, drawings, schematics, and special requirements
- Time tracking and online submittal for daily activities and projects
- Reporting to Project Managers
- Maintaining any assigned tools, safety equipment, and must have your own vehicle and license
- Performs the necessary tests after installation and makes the necessary corrections if necessary
Assets:
- A clear driver abstract
- Dressing fiber optic cables in MxU,
- Ability to use your own vehicle every day
- Willingness to travel
- Current WHMIS
- Working at Heights and Fall Arrest Certification
- Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D design/drafting techniques.

Horizontal Directional Driller/ Locator

Horizontal Directional Driller/Locator
Our Calgary, AB location is currently looking for an experienced Horizontal Directional Driller/Locator with an outstanding track record to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of directional drilling equipment to install underground telecommunications Conduits for mainlines and pathways. Applicants must be punctual, safety conscious with a positive attitude and have a strong work ethic. JIP Telecom Inc. offers mainly full-time Monday-Friday work with competitive pay and benefits.
Primary Job Responsibilities but are not limited to:
- Load and unload directional bore equipment in a manner that is secure and damage free
- Complete drivers’ logbook and daily vehicle inspection (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip) maintenance and repair reports, accident or incident reports.
- Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
- Operating Ditch Witch or Vermeer directional drills;
- Operating picker trucks and water trucks;
- Maintaining and adjusts machinery in order to ensure proper performance;
- Maintaining a proper mix of mud and run mud systems, as well as performing basket changes;
- Maintaining driver logs and completing all other paperwork.
- Knowledge in locating systems;
- Valid Class 5 drivers license preference will be given Class 1 drivers.
- Proven mechanical ability;
- Safety tickets preferred (In-house training will be provided).
- Read and interpret project plans, diagrams and Locates
- Performs work including box locating, installation of conduits for various cables
- Coaches and mentors new employees
- Work under customers’ standards related to horizontal directional drilling; adhering to site-specific rules and regulations
- Maintains and records accurate daily drilling activities
- Will perform all other duties as required by supervisor/manager
- Troubleshoot any equipment issues and relay to service for assistance or resolution
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends or on emergency calls as required
- Fuel and Grease Directional Drill to maintain safe and optimal operation
- General Labour duties and other activities at the construction site as required
- Prepare and coordinate safety toolbox talks and complete pre-job hazard assessments
- Operate equipment in residential areas
- Out of town travel will occasionally be required
Job Qualifications/ Education:
- Minimum 3 years Directional Drilling experience is an asset
- Experience in operation of heavy machinery
- Relevant telecom experience or construction experience
- Knowledge of fibre and conduit Installation is an asset
- Must be able to lift to 23 Kg (50 lbs.)
- Safety Tickets (H2S, Ground Disturbance, and First Aid
- Ability to think and react to changing conditions quickly
- Travel as required
- High School diploma is the minimum educational requirement we would consider.
Job Environment:
- Ability to work in varied outdoor weather conditions
- Must be in good physical condition (Heavy Lifting required +50lbs)
- Must be able to work safely, both independently and also as part of a team
